Freedom Church is passionate about seeing the benefits of God’s Kingdom coming to all people in the Umgeni basin. We recognize we are just one small part of what God wants to do here and we have been purposeful about linking arms with other people and organizations who have compatible goals whether they be other churches, civic organizations, not-for-profit organizations or government agencies. Ultimately, however, we are firm in our belief that ultimately genuine change in persons and communities is only found in Jesus Christ and the good news about what he has done on our behalf which Christians call the Gospel. There are many initiatives we have been getting involved in across the Umgeni basin from Mpophomeni to Merrivale, Hilton to Howick. Above: The Ubuntu Litter Pick Up was organised by a member of the community in Merrivale who simply identified herself as Kate and invited her neighbours to join her one Saturday morning circulating the invitation via WhatsApp. Between 30 and 50 people arrived and spent the morning cleaning up rubbish and dumped material along Cedara Road between the turn off to Cedara and the point where Cedara Road crossed the highway toward Birnam Wood. Catholic theological students from St Joseph's Theological Seminary, Privilege and Ben picking up garbage on the Cedara-Merrivale heights road this morning. About 20 St Joseph’s students joined the community clean up this morning organized by Kate, a resident in Merrivale Heights. Members of the Rietspruit Valley Conservancy also joined the cleanup.
